Your GP

You should contact your GP if you notice any unusual changes with your body. (Read more about symptoms on our awareness page). Your GP will be able to discuss your concerns, assess the possibilities and refer you for tests and investigations as necessary.

If your concerns are not found to be cancer, and this happens in the majority of cases, they will also be able to offer lifestyle advice on how to reduce the symptoms as indicated on the prevention page.

Should you receive a cancer diagnosis, your practice will also be able offer support, help and guidance.

Your GP practice can also help direct you to the national screening programmes if you have missed your screen. They are able to undertake cervical screening, can order a bowel screen kit on your behalf or can advise on how you can be breast screened, if this is appropriate. You can find out more information about screening here
